Myrtle Beach Vietnam War Memorial Project Update

Staff Report / MBlocal.org

Myrtle Beach City Council recently provided an update on the Vietnam War Memorial project, which will be located at Warbird Park. The project is currently in its initial stages, with an architect already selected and the design process underway.

City staff are seeking feedback from the public, with a particular emphasis on engaging Vietnam War veterans. Two public engagement meetings are scheduled for November:

1. **Public Input Meeting**

- Date: Tuesday, November 19

- Time: 5:00 to 7:00 p.m.

- Location: Classroom B, General Robert H. Reed Recreation Center, 800 Gabreski Lane

2. **Veterans' Input Meeting**

- Date: Wednesday, November 20

- Time: 4:00 to 6:00 p.m.

- Location: Classroom B, General Robert H. Reed Recreation Center, 800 Gabreski Lane

The design process is estimated to take 8 to 10 months, followed by a construction period of 6 to 8 months. City officials are considering several dedication dates for the memorial, including March 29 (National Vietnam War Veterans Day), May 26 (Memorial Day), and November 11 (Veterans Day), among other significant dates related to the Vietnam War.

For more information, the full presentation is available at the Myrtle Beach City Government website.
